You are invited to take a walk around the historic port of Mandraki in Rhodes. We will see the medieval picturesque windmills, the fort of St Nicholas and the site where the famous Colossus of Rhodes was supposed to be located.

Wir laden Sie zu einem Spaziergang durch den historischen Hafen von Mandraki auf Rhodos ein. Wir sehen die mittelalterlichen, malerischen Windmühlen, die Festung des Heiligen Nikolaus und die Stelle, an der sich der berühmte Koloss von Rhodos befunden haben soll.

Σας προσκαλούμε να κάνετε μια βόλτα στο ιστορικό λιμάνι του Μανδρακίου στη Ρόδο. Θα δούμε τους μεσαιωνικούς γραφικούς ανεμόμυλους, το φρούριο του Αγίου Νικολάου και το σημείο όπου υποτίθεται ότι βρισκόταν ο περίφημος Κολοσσός της Ρόδου.

Fortyfikacje Rodos - cz. I

 

W obrębie fortyfikacji Rodos znajduje się największe zachowane średniowieczne miasto w Europie, liczące współcześnie ponad 6000 mieszkańców. Jest ono częścią światowego dziedzictwa UNESCO, a także główną atrakcją turystyczną wyspy. Rodos jest jednym z najpiękniejszych zespołów miejskich okresu gotyku.

Umocnienia zostały zbudowane przez Rycerzy Szpitalników Świętego Jana, czyli joannitów, poprzez wzmocnienie istniejących bizantyjskich murów począwszy od 1309 roku, kiedy to po trzyletniej walce opanowali wyspę Rodos. Fortyfikacje w Rodos przetrwały mimo kilku krwawych muzułmańskich oblężeń. 

Średniowieczne miasto położone jest w obrębie 4-kilometrowego muru. Jest podzielone na wysokie miasto na północy i niższe miasto na południowym zachodzie. Pierwotnie oddzielone od dolnego miasta murem obronnym, wysokie miasto zostało w całości zbudowane przez rycerzy joannitów.

Zamek Wielkich Mistrzów

Within the fortifications of Rhodes is the largest surviving medieval town in Europe, with a modern population of over 6,000. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and a major tourist attraction of the island. Rhodes is one of the most beautiful urban complexes of the Gothic period.

The fortifications were built by the Knights Hospitallers of St John, or Knights of St John, by reinforcing the existing Byzantine walls starting in 1309, when they captured the island of Rhodes after a three-year battle. The fortifications in Rhodes survived despite several bloody Muslim sieges. 

The medieval town is situated within a 4km long wall. It is divided into a high city in the north and a lower city in the south-west. Originally separated from the lower town by a defensive wall, the high town was built entirely by the Knights of St John.
